Race and Racism
What young people know and understand about race is that obviously they are different, like they believe whites are superior to non-whites. In the video "A girl like me featurette" a young girl stated that "they believed that light skin black girls are prettier than dark skin black girls." What i think that the girl was trying to say is that the lighter you are the more attractive you are then being darker, or the closer you look to white people the better you are, rather then looking "African." I believe that there are some blacks that are very insecure, but not because of themselves but because what our society in america has brainwashed us with.
I believe that there are many young people, in this case young girls that don't have self-confidence and some insecurities. which is natural for girls, but in this case i believe is just pure brainwash that our society has done to us. African American where always considered minorities, and whites where always superior toward them. which all goes back to slavery and segregation. Still until this day their is racism. However, its not just the whites against blacks , its black against blacks.
Blacks today try to make themselves more "white," what i mean by this is that they do certain things that whites have. Such as relaxing hair, wearing weave, having straight hair, lightning skin, etc. Like I said i don't believe is just young girls being insecure, is what our AMAZING country has taught us to be. In the video they survey little kids (4-6 years old) and 15/21 kids rather choose the white doll then the black doll. Why? because we where taught being white was better ! being white would get us very far! being white would make us more attractive ! NOT.
Well, what can these young girls say if most of there "race: believes in whites being superior then them. They might not say it like that , but their actions prove it. In the video a young girl stated that she started to have her hair natural , and after the second day her mom told her to stop wearing it like that because she looks African Ummm... she is African ? Whats wrong with being African ? Oh yeah , our history explains whats wrong with being African (sarcastic voice) . Honestly in my opinion i think their is beautiful girls and boys from every race, gender or color. People are people, a persons color shouldn't determine who is superior then who , and we should all respect that.

Oh America !
President Kennedy believes true progress results from nations working together for change. In his speech , John F. Kennedy Jr. Stated " My fellow Americans , ask not what you're country can do for you , but what can you do for your country." This means that Instead of just waiting on our country to do everything and help us , why can't we get working and help the country yourself. How you may ask ? Simple , just helping doing small things for the country or the world can impact each other, and help us get stronger as a nation. And probably encourage and work together to understand other nations and support them. Also president Kennedy stated " let both sides explore what unites us instead of belaboring those problems which divides us." What President Kennedy means is that nations should come together and work together on our problems that we have in common or against each other , and fix it. Instead of working solo on different problems against others and do more work that will just bring problems to America. Similar to the story of civil right leaders , what they wanted is to bring black and whites together , to have equal rights and both come together to make a impact on the world.

St.Patricks Day!
St. Patrick's is a holiday that is celebrated on March 17 it is known to be a religious and cultural. It is a holiday mainly for the Irish. St. Patrick is known to be a patron saint and apostle of Ireland. It is said that he died on March 17 , 461. As time went on, more legend came across about Saint Patrick in the Irish culture. if you where wondering why they use the clover its because, one of the legends is the holy trinity: father, the son and the holy spirit (history.com,2013) , which represents the 3 leaves of a clover. The first Irish parade was held here in the united states, and not in Ireland ...shocking huh? lol. I think its a very interesting holiday, that i always heard of , but never really knew what it was, until now.

The "odd ball"
- How do people generally react to those who are willing to step outside the box of comfortability and normalcy and behave in a way that is considered unconventional or unacceptable?
- Why was it so important for Don Haskins to think different?
People generally react who are willing to step outisde the box of comfortability and normalcy and behave in a way that is considered unconventional because they want to be different or unique, or maybe even just be equal. In the movie don Haskins says to a young colored man " i don't see color, i see quick, i see skill, and that's what you have." This shows that Don Haskins, didn't care about what race his players where or what color they where, but their ability to play basketball. Don Haskin, was a white man , but nothing discouraged him with having a mostly black basketball team. Even though, he was putting to much for himself at risk. It was important for Don Haskin to think different because, he showed equality and a part of civil rights. White people where very cruel to colored people, but Don haskin was the odd ball, he didn't care, he proved that color men can play as well or even better then white men. Which is why his team watch NCAA championship. I can relate to this because I honestly HATE racism so much. Every time i see movies or something related towards any other people that weren't white, really aggravates me. I believe in equality no matter what. This reminds me of "Glory road" which of course was based on it but , the movie explains most of what Don Haskin and his players had to go through. Just like in the story, throughout the world people have gone through the same thing. Which is why there where the civil rights movement. Most of us know of Martin Luther King, but he was also a person who stepped outside the box and thought that what was going on during his existence and before was wrong. Which is why he fought and worked really hard, including putting his life out there, for us to be where we are now.... the "promise land."

Mission accomplished
Obstacles and challenges in my life ? Per say i have many. But, i love challenges and obstacles. there have been some good and bad challenges, but there was one challenge that changed my point of view. In 9th grade, it was the first time i was introduced to ROTC also known as Leadership education. I was very excited to have the class, which i had in the second semester. But, once i was in the class it wasn't much of what i expected. There where days that were actual ROTC activities but the year, we slacked of alot!
At the end of 9th grade my sergeant told us about summer leadership school. It was a mini boot camp for high schoolers. I immediately signed up for it, not to mention i was the only person in my class of 25 to sign up. But, it seemed like something different to try so why not. The camp started the Saturday after school ended. I met up at school with my other SLS mates . It was only 4 including me cadets going to boot camp Only freshmen, 2 girls and 2 guys. Our sergeant drove us to fort Dix military base, which was about 2 ours away.
We arrived at the location at 12:00 pm. My stomach was in knots, it finally hit me! i was going to go through a week of suffering. We got out of sergeants car and grabbed our stuff, and all we see is a bunch of people heading toward us and start yelling. I got a little nervous and paranoid because people just started shouting and yelling in our faces. One of my friends got chewed out ( military word for getting yelled out) for wearing sandals, and i could not stand not to laugh. Which was not the best thing to do because i got in trouble, and i did not laugh nor smile for the rest of the time there. We got assigned to our flights and met different people! ( let me tell you, there were GORGEOUS GUYS, probably one reason why i stayed in all they way)
The first day there was very long, that day i was just paranoid and kept shaking. We had showers that where only 3 minutes! HORRIBLE! i hated it, and all that was going through my head was why did i get myself into this! I had very nice roommates, and thankfully my schoolmate. Everyday was a pain waking up at 4:50 am to go do PT (personal training) not to mention that they woke you up in a very harsh way. They yelled and u had 2 minutes to be out. Did i mention you couldn't even brush you're teeth? well yeah, you couldn't until after PT.PT consisted of 20 minutes of aerobic exercising and running 2.3 miles! not a good thing for a person who isn't fit. At 6 am we would go back to our rooms and quickly change do our thing and be down to eat breakfast. Even for breakfast we were rushed , which is something i do not like. Th only thing that would run to my mind s how many days there was left to go back home. I did not like it, it was very different and unusual to me. However, i knew i couldn't back down, i had to do it! It was a big goal for me , and i had to stay
Fourth day there, i was starting to kind of like it , not completely but it was okay.Things became more intense, we started to march outside in 95-100 degree weather in our camouflages. They made us stand in such heat, with our camos for 20-25 minutes without moving. Not to mention, some kids got dehydrated, etc. In my head i just wanted to go back home, , but i have gone through half of it, i wasn't going to quit now. We attended a obstacle course, which was pretty big. Let me tell you this was a very difficult challenge for me! I was not fit at all when i went, and i was going to have to jump over walls, have good balance , and also not be afraid of heights! Thanks to the motivation and help of my flight i passed the obstacle course! which was very very hard for me. If i had another chance to do it, i probably wouldn't Especially jumping over a high double wall, it was such a struggle for me! It was graduation day and we find out my flight won Honor Flight!I had a huge smile on my face with so much happiness and pride in our hard work. Until the lady told me to wipe the smile of my face. It was the day we had a parade to show all of our loved ones we made it . A 15 year old girl went to a mini military camp, not what most kids do for their summer, but surely what i accomplished. It was very hard what i had to go through at that age, but surely was it worth it. I made myself and my parents proud.I had so many chances to quit, and leave the camp, but i didn't i love a challenge , and i was going to accomplish this challenge. And i am very thankful to accomplish it because i can honestly say it made me a better person that i was.

Personification
Personification is a thing that shows human attributes. For example, that table is so sad and dull. Its basically saying that the tables is very old and rusty.
Tuesday Is recovering a little bit from Monday, but its still a little sad -_-.
Wednesday is starting to get a little bit to hyper now, seemed to have had a lot of coffee in the morning.
Thursday Is extremely hyper, its jumping all around. Laughing at everything, has a big smile that its teeth shine the whole morning and afternoon.
Friday just passed out of excitement already. Finally her "time of the month" finished, so she is relieved.
Saturday is getting all dolled up, putting on her mac lipstick she just bought at Macy's and ready to go to dance her butt off.
Sunday is just being lazy from all the partying and just stays home to finish so homework.
